Background

Niale McLoughlin's career began with a summer job at a small hotel in Ireland. Fascinated by the world of hospitality, he studied at Shannon College of Hotel Management and trained in Switzerland, England and the United States. In Asia, he held positions with Hilton, Hyatt and Mandarin Oriental.

After serving as the first head of training and development for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Niale co-founded TSA Solutions, working with upscale hotels across Asia and the Middle East. Its practical courses in sales, service and teamwork made TSA the market leader in performance improvement training.

Later, as Vice President of Learning & Advancement for Wynn Resorts in Macau, Niale was responsible for the development of 12,000 employees across two resorts. During his time there, Wynn Macau earned more Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star awards than any other resort worldwide, while Wynn Palace achieved Five-Star status in record time. Niale also served on the Forbes Travel Guide Standards Advisory Committee.

In all, he has worked with management teams at more than 30 hotel companies, giving him  first-hand experience of the pressures hotel leaders face.

For more than three decades, Niale has studied how people think, feel and perform under pressure – and why some retain their clarity, composure and judgment while others become short-sighted and reactive. Along the way he completed some forty development programs, from weekend workshops to a course lasting nine months, and became a certified coach. All of it now informs his work, helping leaders bring out the best in themselves and others.

Today, Niale works with individuals and teams as an adviser, coach and workshop leader. He helps people think more clearly, make difficult decisions and work better together.

He is the author of A Handbook for Hoteliers (and other humans).
